Best Baromter, Compass and Altimeter Watches

July 26th, 2011

Sunnto Core Wrist Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass and Depth Measurement:

This is probably one of best watches in the ABC category. It has a very easy to read display with white background and black letters OR black background and silver and white alpha-numeric letters. The Altimeter, Barometer and Compass functionality is incredibly accurate and beats many watches in it’s class. Some of the users have actually compared this watch with the actual altimeter, barometer and compass instruments and the watch came on par. It also has a storm alarm which reacts to the air pressure changes. Once you set your course, compass actually indicates which direction to go to with an arrow indicator as well as the words ‘Left’ and ‘Right’. Only thing that’s negative about this watch is Alarm, which is not as strong as some people would like. I would recommend this watch for outdoor lovers and it comes with mostly everything that outdoor person would need during hiking, biking or camping.

Casio PAW1500T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Ultimate Watch:

This watch is also a great watch for the price. It’s compass is very consistent, altimeter is very accurate and is within 5 meters, barometer functionality is also very consistent and accurate and trend graph feature is found to be very useful by majority of the users. Since the thermometer is very sensitive, it might give you a wrong reading if you are wearing it due to the body temperature, but if you take it off you can see that the thermometer is very snappy and accurate as well. It’s very stylish for a digital watch with so many functionalities, it’s dependable and very comfortable to wear. One thing we suggest is that to read the manual very carefully to fully make the use of this great sports and outdoors watch.

Sunnto Vector Wrist Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass and Thermometer:

If you are looking to buy a cheaper watch in ABC category than this might be the watch you are looking for. It is Sunnto’s one of the older models but does the trick and does it well. It has the Compass , Altimeter, Compass and functionalities which are pretty consistent and accurate.  Just like most of the other watches, Thermometer functionality is not that great when you are wearing it due the body temperate and you have to take it off for at least 10 minutes or so to get the actual reading of the temperate. I would suggest this watch for people that don’t want to spend a lot of money in the beginning.

Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Watch

February 23rd, 2011

 Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph Watch is made to be your companion to any of your outdoor adventures. May you be hiking, trekking, biking, sea kayaking or even sky diving, this watch is a helpful exploration buddy. It is actually a wrist – computer which makes the time function just an add-on. You may ask, why a wrist-computer? Because it can give you compass, barometer, thermometer and altimeter functions in this relatively chunky watch.

The Suunto X Lander’s alitimeter functions is definitely a sky diving buddy. As you freefall from 13,000 ft in Hawaii, this watch can tell your altitude and rate of decent in precision. If you want to know what the weather is going to be, you can check on the barometer. It also has a thermometer which can give your body’s temperature if you are wearing it and for the temperature of your location, remove it for awhile on your arm and you will have the location’s temperature. If you are off to a hike in one of the hills of New Hampshire, the digital compass is effective and will definitely give you correct directions. If you are exploring the blue waters of Palau, the buttons of this watch are underwater buttons so you can definitely rely on its water resistance. The features explain for its size but there is nothing to be worried about in regard to its weight because Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph Watch is just light even if it looks solid in its aluminum casing.

There are three styles to choose for Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph Watch. The first one is the traditional positive face in polyurethane strap. The polyurethane is water resistant so it is definitely good for underwater activities. Next is the black negative face in leather strap which is more casual and the newest style is the military edition which has black negative face in rubber strap. The rubber strap is not perfectly scratch-free against rough elements but it is very durable. A reversed faced watch is not hard to read with its good backlight. The Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph Watch is definitely built for hard use and the batteries can be replaced in case it wears out.

Other features of Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph Watch are its function for stopwatch, a countdown timer, a full calendar and a fairly loud alarm clock. The size tells it all.

Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch

February 23rd, 2011

The features of Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch are definitely bigger than its already relatively large size. Its physical facet tells you it is designed for outdoors but wait until you discover its features.

Weather will be predictable for you with the barometer in Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch. It will not let your plans be ruined with its precision to detect pressure at current time and record the last four days barometric pressure.

With its altimeter feature, you can go reach the top when you hike and prove to your friends you went as high as you did by showing off your record by using the 24-hour memory of this watch. It can take note of your total ascents and descents, your record would not lie.
Be proud not to get lost with the built-in compass of Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch. It needs to be calibrated every once in awhile but it is not even hard to do with the help of the user manual. This watch can also provide temperature readings. However, the thermometer is located at the bottom part of the watch so you need to remove it to get the temperature of the surroundings instead of body temperature.

The main edge of Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch compared to other similar watches is its capability to monitor heart rate. You can see on your own the effects of your outdoor activity or maybe the change in temperature and altitude with the beats per minute of your heart.

You can set more than one alarm in Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch within a day. This enables you to be reminded of not just one task in one setting. However, the alarm will just sound once. It will not repeat so you need to hear it first thing or else you will miss the alarm. Despite that, the alarm is reasonably loud so it is definite that you will hear it. Also, get advanced with the full calendar of this watch which is already programmed until 80 years from now. It has year settings so you do not have to worry about leap years. It is also has a 24-hour countdown timer which is very easy to set.

Other minimal features of Suunto Vector Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch is its glare free face and it has a night light which enables you to see and read the watch even if in dark locations with just one push of a button.

All these features in one watch makes it more than a time-telling tool, it becomes a sports equipment.

Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch

February 23rd, 2011

I will start telling you about Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch with the only negative thing I can complain about it. It is big. Thin wristed persons will not enjoy this large watch. However the gigantic aspects of this watch can speak for its size.

When I went hiking few months ago, the main thing I prepared for the trip is this watch. I have been waiting for a perfect reason to buy it and the hiking trip was it. I have heard all good things about Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch and I wanted to try it on my own. So here goes my first-hand experience of the watch.

The altimeter went useful for our altitude goal. It gave accurate reading when we were climbing and it conveniently stores the measurement in its memory so you can always check on your progress. It was also good in providing estimated travel time according to your average pace.  It was good hearing the alarm sound once you are near in approaching the set goal. The thermometer and barometer coupled with knowledge about weather system can give an edge for weather predictions. I was ahead in giving weather prediction to my companions as we hiked.  I give two thumbs up for the compass. It permits immediate directional reading and with this, you can easily calculate your proposed destination.  It has another feature for tide graphs but I was not able to enjoy it since it is only good for fishing. I can see my companions eyeing my watch with envy with all those things it can perform.

While automatic watches needs to be worn to work and battery powered watched needs energy from a battery source to work, Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch can amazingly recharge itself via solar power. So all you need is solar energy for it to work. You do not have to worry about if it there is no solar energy source available because it has the capacity to store solar energy. It will give you an alarm if it soon needs recharge.

The key to maximize the features of Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch is calibration. Even traditional equipment functioning for altimeter, barometer or compass needs calibration. So do not expect that this watch will do it automatically. It is not even hard to calibrate so do not be lazy in following simple steps from the manual so you can enjoy your Casio Men’s PAW1500-1V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Barometer, Altimeter and Compass Watch at its finest performance

Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Chronograph

May 9th, 2010

If you are an outdoor person and have yet to find the perfect watch to suit your lifestyle, then may I direct your attention to the Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch?  This watch has everything an outdoor sports enthusiast could want in a Sports watch.  It is a wrist top computer sports watch that features a barometer, an altimeter, a compass, and a GPS navigation device.

Perhaps the coolest thing about the Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch is the logbook feature that it provides via the onboard computer.  This computer allows you to upload and download various tracks and routes that you take.  The USB cable that you use for this also does double duty as a charging device.

Lots of great features packed into this little watch, to be sure!

Of course, all of this is not without its few drawbacks.  The only major drawback is the high-end price that you will pay if you want this watch.  All of those nifty features do come at a price and that price is generally just below half a grand.  If you don’t mind waiting or scavenging, though, you may be able to find a good deal on one.  Other than that, there is a small issue you should be aware of and that is some people have had issues with the glue that holds the top cover coming loose.

In a nutshell, I will break down the PROS: and CONS: for you to give you a better overall picture of the Suunto X-Lander Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch.

PROS:

* Fast GPS fixing for pinpoint accuracy out on the trail

* Digital compass

* The barometer assists in predicting changes in the climate

* The altimeter not only displays your current elevation, but also gives you vertical ascending and descending rates

* Logbook function

* This offers water resistance up 330 feet

* Stopwatch function

* Three settable daily alarms

* An extended two-year warranty

CONS:

* The price of admission is out of reach for many

* There have been complaints about the glue used to secure the top cover has a tendency to come loose over time

Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Thermometer

May 9th, 2010

If you enjoy running, biking, hiking, or mountain climbing, then chances are you know all about Suunto watches.  While these watches are expensive, they really are worth every penny.  But if you have found yourself suffering from sticker shock in the past, then you owe it yourself to check out a lower cost model:  the Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch.

The Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Compass, Barometer and Altimeter Watch keeps track of both your altitude changes and the barometric changes over time via the computer onboard.  It will log your altitude (within a 9,000 meter range at a resolution of one-meter) and ascending and descending rates every hour for a 24 hour period while the barometric changes are logged for a period of four days.  The time function has all the features you would expect from a watch of this caliber and is even preprogrammed to 2089.  If looks and fashion are important to you, then you will be pleased to know that this watch is available in several colors such as black, yellow, and khaki.

But not all is roses in regards to the Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch.  Perhaps the biggest issue this watch has is the fact that the watch face itself is neither crystal nor glass, but rather some type of plastic.  Though using plastic is surely one way that Suunto keeps the price down, it causes the face to get scratched rather easily.  Another thing to keep in mind is the battery life you can expect to get out of this.  It is likely that you will have to replace the battery about once every year, particularly if you use the backlight a lot.

PROS:

* A very illuminating backlight

* An accurate altimeter with a range of 9,000 meters

* Clock has three alarms, dual time display, and stopwatch functions

* Keeps both altitude and barometer data in memory (altitude for 24 hours, barometer for four days.

* Built in thermometer

* Comes in a variety of colors

CONS:

* The watch face is made of a type of plastic and is easily scratched

* The battery needs to be replaced at least once a year under moderate use

Suunto Altimax Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter and Barometer

May 9th, 2010

When the outdoors is an important part of your life, you should really think hard about getting the best sports watch for your needs.  One such watch that may prove to be a great addition to your outdoor gear is the Suunto Altimax Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter and Barometer.  Now, I know what may be going through your mind right now:  “But Suunto watches are really expensive…”  While that may be the case, Suunto offers a specific product that fills a specific need and most generally warrant the price they command.  Fortunately, this particular watch falls into Suunto’s more affordable category.

Overall, this model has many of the great features that Sunnto provides.  It features a watch (of course!), altimeter, and barometer all in one.  These functions do their jobs exceptionally well.  The time function keeps track of the time and date, has a dual time-zone, several alarms, stopwatch, and countdown timer.  The altimeter tells you what altitude you are currently at and also gives you information on your most recent trends.  Going a little deeper, you can tell it to keep track of various aspects related to altitude, such as feet-per-minute skied or distance per hour climbed.  The barometer function works well to help predict changes in the weather and it, too, can keep a running log for you to examine.

However, as with most products, the Suunto Altimax Wrist-Top Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch is not without its shortcomings.  Luckily, these shortcomings are not deal breakers by any means; they just need to be kept in mind before making a final purchasing decision.  Aesthetically speaking, this watch is quite large!  If you have small wrists or hands, then it may very well appear out of proportion when strapped on.  However, this generally does not affect performance.  Unfortunately, there is one thing that does affect performance.  The mode switch has the tendency to inadvertently get pressed causing the watch to change modes without the user realizing it.

PROS:

* Low cost (for a Suunto computer watch)

* The watch function offers many useable features without bombarding you with stuff you won’t use

* The altimeter lets you keep track of various information for later examination

* The barometer also records data for later study

CONS:

* The watch is very large and therefore may be uncomfortable for those with smaller wrists or hands

* The modes switch tends to get in the way

Highgear AltiTech Computer Watch with Altimeter, Compass, and Thermometer

May 9th, 2010

The Highgear AltiTech Computer Compass, Altimeter and Barometer Watch is a little different from your average sports watch.  This is because this watch does not use a watchband per se but rather attaches to a belt loop or other loop by way of a clip.  This is handy for those who would rather keep a basic watch on their wrist but still need the functionality of an all in one outdoor watch.

Like many computer watches made for the serious outdoors sports person, the Highgear AltiTech Computer Altimeter, Compass and Barometer Watch keeps track of many useful strings of data for later examination.  It will hold up to 20 altimeter readings with a range of -2296 feet to 29,500 feet in increments of just one foot as well as accumulated altitude and max altitude.  The digital barometer graphs pressure and the weather forecast.  It has a digital compass that is accurate to one degree.  The onboard level helps to improve the compass’s accuracy.  A digital thermometer helps round out the features.

Of course, what’s an outdoor watch if it can’t tell time?  The Highgear AltiTech Computer Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch offers two time zones, a calendar, alarms and backlight.  It also will tell you the current date and the time down to the second.

One thing that this watch has a problem with is the face because it scratches a little too easily.  And as is the case with many sports watches, the function buttons can be pressed by accident.  Unfortunately, with this watch, depending on where you clip it, those buttons may get pressed more than you want.  Speaking of placement, it is not has handy as having all of the information sitting right on your wrist, though for people with small wrists it does beat having a large computer swallow your arm.

PROS:

* Allows user to get all of the use of an all in one watch without having to have a large piece strapped to their wrist

* Extremely accurate altimeter, barometer, and compass

* 2 year warranty

CONS:

* The face tends to scratch easily

* The buttons tend to have a mind of their own, though this does depend on where you clip the watch

* May not be as handy as a watch, though this, too, depends on where you clip it

Casio Men’s Pathfinder Triple Sensor Altimeter Barometer Digital Compass Watch

May 9th, 2010

For anyone looking to buy an outdoor watch, the Casio Men’s Pathfinder Triple Sensor Barometer Watch comes in at a fair price.  It features an altimeter, a barometer, a thermometer, and even a digital compass.  The digital compass holds up to 5 settings for later references and includes the direction, date and time.  The altimeter and barometer also allow you to keep track of various measurements.  The altimeter has a range of 10,000 meters and does so in 5 meter increments.  The watch stores up to 50 settings that capture the altitude, date, and temperature.

The watch itself is a fully functional time piece as should be expected from Casio.  It has a stopwatch that measures up to sixty minutes and can do split times as well as place times.  It can give you an alarm on the hour plus you can set a daily alarm and it will display in either twelve hour or twenty-four hour formats.  In dark places, you can use the AfterGlow LED backlight.

The only real issue with the Casio Men’s Pathfinder Triple Sensor Barometer Watch is that the altimeter itself can be a little buggy.  Sometimes it will read one setting of, say, +20 feet and then at another time (in the same location, mind you) it may read +25 feet.  Also, this watch, along with many other watches from a multitude of manufacturers, walks a fine line between having buttons that are either too hard to press or are too easy to press.  It seems that Casio went with having buttons that are too easy to press and can therefore be inadvertently engaged from moving your hand around.

PROS:

* The fair price for both the name brand and the features

* Fully featured digital compass

* Holds in memory 50 settings of the altimeter

* Fully featured watch functionality

* Water resistant up to 330 feet or 100 meters.

CONS:

* The altimeter is not the most accurate altimeter around and can be a little buggy at times

* The buttons, while easy to press, have the tendency to get pushed inadvertently
